Arusha
General Information
Arusha is located in its own region of Arusha in Tanzania, and is its second largest town. Situated at the base of the fertile southern side of Mount Meru, near the Kenyan border, Arusha is known to be the "Safari Capital" of Tanzania.
This city is the most convenient stop in which to explore the northern game-viewing circuit and is the entry point for an increasing number of flights from Europe which land at the nearby Kilimanjaro International Airport. The beautiful Mererani Hills is the only known source of the gemstone Tanzanite, which is also a tourist drawcard to the area.
Arusha as with most of Tanzania has a moderate tropical climate with two main rainy seasons mid-March to May and November to December. Practically everything in Arusha centres around the safari industry and with the rise of tourism to the area so has the population increased with the lure of the tourist dollar.
